Get Involved
From interacting with graduate students to participating in departmental seminars, from brown-bag lunches, parties, and weekend excursions to community outreach events like McClung Museum tours, Earth Science Day, Darwin Day, and helping out at the Knoxville Gem and Mineral Society annual show, we want you to get involved! For undergraduate students, the Earth and Planetary Sciences Department includes two concentrations: Geological Studies and Environmental Studies. Each of these concentrations has its own club! See those and other ways to get involved below.
Geoclub (Geological Studies)
The Geoclub is very active in geologically-based educational activities, such as field trips and (geology-based) movie nights.
Environmental Studies Club (Environmental Studies)
The Environmental Studies Club is equally dynamic in raising awareness of environmental issues and working to solve them.
Undergraduate Research
Every year, a variety of opportunities exists for the undergraduate research in the fields of geology, environmental science, and planetary geology. Students are encouraged to contact individual faculty with questions about current research opportunities. Most faculty will create and tailor a research project to student’s particular interests.
