The EPS Diversity Council is dedicated to advancing the department’s vision for a diverse, equitable, inclusive working environment where all individuals feel welcome, encouraged, and embraced regardless of differing ideas, abilities, backgrounds, and needs. Membership of the Council normally consists of a Chairperson, two other faculty members, a graduate student representative, and an undergraduate representative.
The Diversity Council serves three main functions in the department:
- Providing programming and training opportunities to broaden awareness of diversity-related opportunities.
- Offering venues and reporting opportunities where diversity-related issues can be brought forward, discussed, and addressed.
- Tracking diversity-related metrics of department performance with regard to EPS’s Diversity Action Plan.
In addition, members of the EPS Diversity Council participate in the EPS Department’s URGE Program, work with the Undergraduate and Graduate Program Committees to encourage recruiting of a diverse student body, and work to build partnerships with other diversity-related organizations and opportunities across UT and in the broader community.
The Diversity Council is also responsible for maintaining the Diversity page on the department’s website, and for monitoring, and when appropriate, acting upon comments posted on the anonymous reporting form.
